NFL Betting 2010-11: Back Brett Favre and the Vikings for Superbowl glory

NFL Betting 2010-11: Back Brett Favre and the Vikings for Superbowl glory

As the clock wound down in last January's NFC Championship game it looked like Brett Favre was leading his team to the Superbowl. But a late penalty and disastrous interception changed everything. One of the greatest of all time was never going to go out like that...

We move forward seven months and to no-one's surprise old #4 is back and ready to have one last go at the big one. He returns to the Minnesota Vikings knowing that his team is a legitimate contender in a stacked NFC.

The Vikings may just have more attacking weapons than anyone else in the NFC. A strong offensive line gave Favre all the time he wanted last year to find his wide receivers. Teams couldn't drop their linebackers back to help in coverage though as Adrian Peterson was the best running back in the league. They had everything and everyone is returning for this campaign.

And not much has changed on the defensive side of the ball. The unit is a year older and a year wiser. They know deep down this is it. Favre is retiring after this season (and I do think he means it) and whoever they bring in to replace the great man will not be a Hall of Fame Quarterback.

So you have to see the Vikings as real players. They should have won it all last year. That horrific throw may have been the icing on the cake but Peterson could hardly keep hold of the ball and Percy Harvin fumbled late on at a crucial time in the fourth quarter.

The New Orleans Saints won the Superbowl last year but the Vikings were the best team in the league.

The Saints will be strong again this year, and you have to like the look of the Packers should their offensive line gel to gave Aaron Rodgers time in the pocket. Of course, with the Superbowl being in Dallas this year, the pressure is well and truly on the Cowboys to become the first team to win a Superbowl on home turf.

However, for me, if the Vikings stay healthy then they are still the best team on paper and at 15.0 on the markets they should be backed.

Recommended Bet: Back the Minnesota Vikings to win the Superbowl at 12.0 or above.
